Howard the Murray Cod Cartoon

Hubby's Mum wanted me to scan this cartoon and print it out on a better quality piece of paper and have it laminated. I have also decided to post this cartoon on my blog as I can see why she loves it. It is a very Aussie cartoon and it is especially topical for our area in Australia. The cartoon depicts our Prime Minister John Howard as a Murray Cod which is Australia's largest fresh water fish and can grow between 60 to 130cm (3 to 45kg) under the right circumstances. The largest fish caught on record was 183cm (113kg). These days due to over fishing, environmental issues and the introduction of the European Carp, it is not an easy task to catch a small Murray Cod let alone a whopper! However I do have a nephew who seems to know all of the right tricks to land some large sized Cods. So this cartoon depicts the Murray River along which I live, also an example of Australia's drought (The Murray is not this low yet though) and a fish or in this case a PM that has been very difficult to catch. But it appears that the leader of the opposition party thinks he has a chance very soon to land a whopper. Time will tell.
