The Aussie Pot-Bellied Pig's Sty

In 1998 I was a Venturer Scout (Scouts aged 14 to 17) leader and we took our Venturers down to the ANZAC Day Pde in Melbourne, so that the venturers could help carry the banners for the older diggers. It was a 3 hours drive down to Melbourne and we had to be up at some ungodly hour in the morning to get down there. But it was worth the journey. Today I managed to watch the Parade on TV and I did see the banner our boys carried 10 years ago. The venturers carried the banner for the Royal Australian Survey Corps. The Royal Australian Survey Corps began in July 1915 at the Australian Survey Corps. The prefix 'Royal' was added to the title in 1936. The Royal Australian Survey Corps provided charts and maps for training and military operations of the Australian Defence Force. The Corps was disbanded in 1996 and was absorbed into the main section of the Australian Defence Force.

Married on the 1st March 1997 at Mount Little Higginbotham which is near Mount Hotham in North Eastern Victoria, Australia. Standing just before the huge fall to the deep valley below, with another mountain range in the background.

Our Wedding: The two of us with a very young Ben, he is now taller than both of us!

Married on the 1st March 1997 at Mount Little Higginbotham which is near Mount Hotham in North Eastern Victoria, Australia. We both love the mountains, so we decided to get married up in the mountains. It took a lot of looking to find the right spot. The spot which we chose looked down over a huge valley with a mountain on the other side. The joke was that if one of the guests was against the marriage they could have just pushed one of us over the side of the mountain and down into the valley below. We were married under a Snow Gum Tree. We were married by the church minister who was my church minister when I was a teenager and she just as luck would have it, happened to be living in Mount Beauty at the time, which is a town situated below Mount Hotham and she was happy to make the trip up the mountain to marry us. Given we were getting married in the mountains we decided to wear clothes associated with the Mountain Cattlemen. So R.M. Williams moleskins, shirts and boots were the order of the day. The weather was perfect, a mild 20C which is excellent weather for the mountains at that time of the year. We were very lucky because according to the relatives who stayed up on the mountain, the next day the mountain was completely fogged in.

Australian National Flag

Flag Adopted: 14 April 1954 Use: State, Civil and Military Flag and State Ensign In vexillological terms, the Australian flag is a defaced British blue ensign (the State Ensign of the United Kingdom). In the upper hoist (canton) of the flag is the Union Flag (i.e. the State and Civil Flag of the United Kingdom, popularly called the Union Jack). On the fly are 5 white stars, representing the Southern Cross, a constellation of stars generally only visible in the southern hemisphere. Each of these stars has 7 points except for the smallest star which has only five. Directly below the Union Flag is a large 7 pointed white star called the Federation Star, representing the federation of the colonies of Australia on 1 January 1901. There is one point for each of the six original states, and one to represent all of Australia's internal and external territories.
