A Suggestion if You are Bed Bound and Can’t Even Read a Book
So what can you do if you are stuck in bed, unable to hold a book or read for any length of time or bright lights such as the TV are just too irritating?
Here are a couple of suggestions:
Talk Back Radio: This is a great means to feel like you are still in
touch with people. I find it is just nice to listen to other people talking and
chatting, discussing new ideas, their lives etc. If you have the energy you
could always phone in and have a chat too or send in an sms.
ABC local Radio. I
especially enjoy the conversation hour weekdays at in .
Stubbsy in the afternoon, he is always good for a laugh and the quiz at night.
At night I am actually a bit of a traitor to as I actually listen to the NSW broadcast with James
O’loghlin. If you miss some interesting programs you may also be able to
download them as a podcast.
ABC NewsRadio. It
has some links to interesting news items and it also has the entertaining
theatrics of “Parliament” that’s always good for a laugh.
ABC Dig: Non-stop music,plus
specialist jazz and country channels.
ABC Triple J: Music
for the younger brigade or the young at heart.
ABC Classic FM: The
world’s most beautiful music, if you prefer classical, opera, etc.
For all of your ABC radio links just go to: www.abc.net.au/radio
Have you tried listening to Radio National? http://www.abc.net.au/rn
They do have some interesting programs and they have two book readings each week day, one biographical and the other fiction. If you miss an episode you can still listen to it online for the following 1-2 weeks. If you don’t know about it go to:
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/bookreading/default.htm
Or
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/firstperson/default.htm
.
Their weekly program list is available for download at:
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/schedule/inc/prnt.pdf
.
Another good radio service which may be useful is RPH radio, which is radio for the blind and vision impaired. They have readings of newspapers, books etc and it maybe useful. Go to their website for a radio frequency close to you:

ABC radio is definitely a friend sometimes and just like blogging you can feel part of a community.
I like listening to Macca on ABC on the weekend. My mum and hubby have Macca on everytime and now I appreciate the essential Australianess of his show. He talks to people from all over Aust. Then there is Madonna and Kelly on 612 in Brisbane, always worth a listen.

Yep you can't bet Macca on a Sunday morning, it i one of the longest radio shows in Australia, of course Macca wasn't the initial presenter.
Talking about Australianess - I had to explain to 14 yo son tonight what "You've got Buckley's chance" and I also used the word Bonza and he said, "What?".
I am worried that we are loosing our great Aussie slang, however I have noticed that I am using it more as I get older, I am not sure what that means about me? Maybe I realise how important our Aussie roots are.
