I wonder why we have terrorism on this planet we call home?

Comments

I dont follow politics or religion AT ALL so perhaps I'm not the best person to comment, however have you ever read John Marsdens Tomorrow Series? They're all about Australia being invaded and how a group of teens deal with it - in a fashion they end up terrorists in their own country. They are books aimed at teenagers but a great and incredibly thought provoking read for any age.
Hey your comments are welcome.

I haven't come across those books, but they do sound like an interesting and very thought provoking read I shall look out for them.

Thanks for the info and for dropping by.
[to be human is to be violent. it is indeed inevitable. we are weak as we are inept.]
I hope that some of us can move past violence and look for peace, as we do have the will to change. That is my hope :-)
Good post, Chezz. I remember having a see-sawing dialogue with someone on another blog as to why the insurgents were killing their own almost everyday in Iraq. He said it was stupid, as if labelling all Muslims as stupid. My contention is that this is precisely the sort of misguided view that's too easy to propagate... because it is largely borne of ignorance. When a people cannot fight back conventionally against an invasion force due to an imbalance in military firepower, they will use whatever means at their disposal to fight the war on THEIR own terms. This is guerilla warfare for which the allied forces have very little taste for. The same thing happened in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnya etc. And if this means suicide bombings that harm unfortunately innocent civilians, then that's the collateral damage that's deemed "acceptable". There is no right in any of this. It is a nasty war that's been visited upon a people by outsiders. Given the same situation happening to us here, I daresay we might have to face these ugly choices, too. Who can really say except for the people fighting/living it everyday?
Thank you Ninja for your very insightful comments.

There are not too many people who could watch their homeland being taken over without some type of struggle. I don't think Australia would be any different, but I guess we hope that the US will come to our aid.

Possibly the only land that I can think of is Tibet being taken over by China. The only reason that they don't fight is becuase of their strong Buddhist belief in Karma. So they either endure or flee and many die which ever choice they make. I guess that will have to be my next campaign for freedom.

Thanks Ninja.

I have to disagree with the "To be human is to be violent" comment.

Sounds vaguely religious.

Humans (well thinking ones at least) have the ability to make a choice and I reckon that most times they get it right. Unfortunately when people start collecting around flag poles or a religious text, the joint IQ seems to drop considerably.

I had some replies on one of my anti war items that beggar belief. Some bloke was suggesting the US should not be putting soldiers on trial who murder overseas. Kinda makes me wonder why some of these folk think the US is in Iraq. Obviously not for the well being of the locals.

Of course one of the posts had the obligatory "Bomb them back to the Stone Age" comments. Normally these childish comments can be ignored but unfortunately their President thinks the same way.

I'm with you ChezzaG. I can understand why the locals are upset. No amount of calling them Insurgents will convince me it's not frustrated locals.

Hey Peter,

As for the IQ dropping when gathered around a religious text is concerned, I think it is a matter of how the text is interpreted that is issue. It seems to me that too many war hungry religious fanatics either take passages out of their chosen text to support their opinion - i.e. the passage has been taken out of context. Or they really do not understand the true meaning of their religion, as I know of no religion that actively promotes war and hatred. The quotes from ICH at the start of the week show us that, see at the end of my comment.

There is definitely a lot of double standards when it comes to the US Goverment. It is just so ironic that the US will claim a country has weapons of mass destruction, not listen to the reports that said contrary and then send in the troops to find the weapons of mass destruction (which are still missing?) and the ironic part is that the US Government will not freely allow weapons inspectors into their own facilities.
The US has refused to accept weapons inspectors from countries it regards as hostile to its interests, and has told those who have been allowed in which parts of a site they may and may not inspect. It has also passed special legislation permitting the president to block unannounced inspections, and banning inspectors from removing samples of its chemicals.

It appears that the
US is beyond reproach because it has made itself the 'US Marshall' of the entire planet. I just watched "Pale Rider" with Clint Eastwood in it, I wonder if the hired Marshall Stockburn in that movie is equivalent to this world's current 'Marshall', I hope not :-(

As for the US and putting its soldiers on trial for war crimes. That is another issue, given that the Bush Goverernment does not consider itself bound by President Clinton's
December 31, 2000 signature on the treaty to create a permanent war crimes tribunal and so it 'unsigned' the US Government's name.

Oh and don't even get me started on Nth Korea and its nuclear capabilities and why they feel they need them in the 1st place. I think I have said enough.

So I am with you Peter - thank's for your comments :-)
